Your letter of the 21st March addressed to the Registrar of the University of Durham, was laid before a recent meeting of our Council, and I have been requested to say in reply, that the course of instruction in Bacteriology given by Dr William Hunter in Hong Kong will be recognised by this University, provided that it consists of:-

"Three months' course of Lectures on Comparative Pathology with Practical work in the Bacteriological Laboratory."

I have been asked to draw your attention to the fact that nothing is said in the Extract from despatch from Governor Sir H. Nathan to the Earl of Elgin, dated 5th February 1906. No.30, with regard to the teaching of Chemistry. Kindly let me know whether this subject is to be taught practically in the Institution mentioned, and if so, will the course extend over three months?
